ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Last 05 Years accomplishment –

• CHARCOS Basic Science Students have published 08 review / papers while 05 are in pipeline.

• CHARCOS is registered with more than 10 research associations as members.

• CHARCOS Associate Coordinators (SHSU Faculty) have published 19 research papers and 01 book chapter.

• CHARCOS Clinical Science Students have published 04 research papers.

• There are 05 publications made by students in Hearbeat Journal.

• 01 Publication was made by Clinical Chair.

• A total of 38 members (Faculty, Graduate, Clinical Science Students, and Basic Science Students) are enrolled in Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR) online course offered by Office of Clinical Research, NIH, USA for 2022-23.

• A total of 21 members (Faculty, Graduate, Clinical Science Students, and Basic Science Students) are enrolled in Principles of Clinical Pharmacology (PCP) online course offered by Office of Clinical Research, NIH, USA for 2022-23.

• CHARCOS student members developed various proposals to work. One student’s research proposal on “Childhood Obesity” is submitted to GEMx (ECFMG) sponsored Student Competition: Student Project for Health. Second proposal on Mental illness is under process.

•• A total of 38 members (Faculty, Graduate, Clinical Science Students, and Basic Science Students) are enrolled in Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR) online course offered by Office of Clinical Research, NIH, USA for 2022-23.

• CHARCOS students published four (04) International, one (01) Regional and five (05) Institutional level research papers. Two (02) research articles are in under process of review.

• A total of 42 members (Faculty, Graduate, Clinical Science Students, and Basic Science Students) were enrolled in Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR) and Principles of Clinical Pharmacology (PCP) online course offered by Office of Clinical Research, NIH, USA for 2020-21.

• Certificate of appreciation & recognition has been given to graduating students.

SPARTAN RESEARCH WORKSHOP – 2018
SPARTAN RESEARCH WORKSHOP – ADVANCES IN RESEARCH & REVIEWS IN MEDICAL SCIENCES was organized.

The first session was “POSTER Presentation”. A total of 45 posters were presented by students and evaluated by External Evaluators from Ministry of Health, Govt. of St. Lucia. All potential papers are in pipeline for preparation of final draft to submit for publication.

The second session was Seminar on “Chronic Respiratory Disease” presented by students. Topics covered under seminar are -
1) Asthma & Allergies 2) COPD 3) Occupational Lung Disease 4) Sleep Apnea Syndrome 5) Pulmonary Hypertension 6) Cystic Fibrosis 7) Lung Cancer


• CHARCOS is registered with more than 10 research associations as members.

• One International Student from Keele Medical School, UK is accepted to perform research for the period of 02 months.

• All the CHARCOS student members are involved in writing a research proposals, Health Camps in collaboration with AMSA, Health Surveys, writing a scholarly articles / Review articles, participation in various seminar / conferences, and regular utilization of EBSCO host (Full text Medline search) database available at SHSU.

• CHARCOS students were actively participated in Health Camps and learn to construct the surveys.

• Affiliate membership of St. Lucia Diabetic & Hypertension Association (SLDHA).

• Certificate of appreciation & recognition has been given to graduating students.

GRANTS :

• SHSU supports for Health Camps organized by CHARCOS.

• Additional funding is provided by SHSU for routine activity of CHARCOS

• Annual Seed Grant is approved by Executive Dean, SHSU.

• Proposal for Establishing DNA Lab is under consideration.
